India has prohibited sugar exports with immediate effect until September 30, 2026, in a move aimed at improving domestic availability and keeping prices under control.
According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade on May 13, the export policy for raw, white, and refined sugar has been changed from “Restricted” to “Prohibited” until September 30, 2026, or further orders, whichever is earlier.
Earlier, sugar exports were allowed under the restricted category, which required exporters to obtain a government license before shipments.
