Union Cabinet Passes Resolution Honouring PM Modi as Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

The Union Cabinet has passed a resolution congratulating Narendra Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister in consecutive terms, marking June 10, 2026, as a significant milestone in the country's democratic history.

According to the resolution, Prime Minister Modi has completed 4,399 consecutive days in office as an elected Prime Minister, surpassing the previous record of 4,398 continuous days held by Jawaharlal Nehru between 1952 and 1964.

The Cabinet noted that the achievement coincides with the completion of 12 years of NDA government under Prime Minister Modi's leadership and comes as he approaches 25 years of continuous service as Head of Government, including his tenure as Chief Minister and Prime Minister.

The resolution highlighted various initiatives and reforms undertaken during his tenure, including welfare measures aimed at poverty alleviation, expansion of housing, electricity, clean drinking water, direct benefit transfers, free foodgrain distribution, and healthcare coverage. It stated that these efforts contributed to lifting more than 25 crore people out of poverty.

The Cabinet also acknowledged initiatives focused on youth, women, and farmers, including the growth of India's startup ecosystem, women's empowerment programs, and agricultural support schemes such as the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.

The resolution further praised key policy decisions and reforms, including the implementation of GST, One Rank One Pension (OROP), the abrogation of Article 370, labor reforms, and measures aimed at strengthening national security and self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India campaigns.

It also highlighted India's growing global stature through initiatives such as the G20 Summit 2023, the International Solar Alliance, and the promotion of International Yoga Day.

Through the resolution, the Union Cabinet conveyed its congratulations and best wishes to the Prime Minister, expressed gratitude for his service and leadership, and reiterated its support for his vision of building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047. The Cabinet also extended wishes for his continued health and service to the nation.
