Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd. (BCML) continued its nationwide 'Bioyug On Wheels' awareness campaign in Rajkot, Gujarat, promoting compostable, sugarcane-based PLA (polylactic acid) bioplastics as sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics.

Held at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Art Gallery grounds, the initiative featured live demonstrations, interactive exhibits, and product displays showcasing the applications of bio-based compostable plastics in everyday use. The campaign highlighted the role of PLA bioplastics in supporting a circular economy and reducing plastic waste.

BCML also cited findings from a recent study by a premier government institution, which showed that PLA microplastics degrade safely under Indian soil conditions, with particle count declining significantly over a 180-day period compared to conventional plastics.

The event attracted more than 500 visitors, including students, educators, sustainability advocates, and industry participants, while also receiving support from officials of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation.

Executive Director Avantika Saraogi said the strong response from the community reflects increasing awareness of sustainable alternatives. She added that PLA bioplastics can replace several banned single-use plastic products, including bottles, cutlery, garbage bags, and cold cups, helping consumers and businesses adopt environmentally responsible solutions.
