Tata Communications, a global leader in communications technology, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., to launch a cutting-edge, AI-ready network infrastructure in India. This strategic collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of generative AI and cloud innovation across the country.
The initiative represents one of Tata Communications’ largest-ever national network deployments in terms of scale, size, and bandwidth. The high-capacity, long-distance network will connect three major AWS infrastructure hubs—Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai—creating a robust backbone to support advanced AI and machine learning (ML) workloads. AWS currently operates two data center regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, with AWS Direct Connect and Edge Network infrastructure in Chennai.
Key highlights of the partnership include:
Next-Generation Network Connectivity: The project will leverage Tata Communications’ advanced network to deliver high-bandwidth, low-latency connections, crucial for AI workloads. AWS will deploy its proprietary network technologies to ensure top-tier performance, availability, and security between its infrastructure locations.
AI-Powered Innovation: The enhanced infrastructure will empower businesses across various sectors—such as healthcare, finance, and education—to develop, train, and scale AI applications more efficiently.
Security and Compliance: The network will adhere to strict regulatory and security standards to ensure data privacy and integrity.
This collaboration is expected to deliver exceptional network performance and scalability, essential for running next-generation AI applications. The new network will include ultra-low latency express routes to enable rapid data transfer and processing, supporting the most demanding compute-intensive AI and ML operations.
“This marks our largest National Long-Distance program and highlights Tata Communications’ unmatched ability to execute high-capacity, complex network projects,” said Genius Wong, Executive Vice President, Core and Next-Gen Connectivity Services & Chief Technology Officer at Tata Communications. “AI is revolutionizing industries worldwide, and through this collaboration with AWS, we are building a future-ready network that anticipates the needs of tomorrow. It’s a major step in making India a hub for AI innovation.”
Jesse Dougherty, Vice President of Network Edge Services at AWS, added, “We’re excited to partner with Tata Communications in building a state-of-the-art in-country network in India. Designed to handle the most data-intensive workloads—from 5G to generative AI—this infrastructure will empower Indian businesses to innovate and scale in the rapidly growing digital economy.”
