TEC, SRMIST Sign MoU to Collaborate on Telecom Research and Standardisation

The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the SRM Institute of Science & Technology (SRMIST) to collaborate on research, joint studies, and technical contributions in advanced telecom technologies and global standardisation efforts.

The agreement, signed on November 13, 2025, at SRMIST Kattankulathur, Chengalpattu, aims to advance research in emerging areas such as 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), Quantum Communication, and cybersecurity. It also seeks to strengthen India’s participation in international standardisation bodies, including ITU-T, ITU-D, ITU-R, and 3GPP.

The MoU was signed by Shri Amit Kumar Srivastava, DDG (Mobile Technologies), TEC, and Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Registrar, SRMIST, in the presence of senior officials and academicians from both organisations.

The collaboration will focus on developing India-specific standards and test frameworks, promoting indigenous R&D, and driving innovation in key areas such as AI-driven 6G network design, digital twins, quantum cryptography, edge AI, optical communications, and Open RAN technologies.

The initiative aligns with the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat by enhancing domestic capabilities in telecom research, design, and manufacturing, thereby reducing import dependency and strengthening India’s position in global telecom standardisation.
