Govt advances National Green Hydrogen Mission with strong inter-ministerial coordination

The Government of India is progressing steadily on the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), which has a total outlay of Rs 19,744 crore and aims to position India as a global hub for green hydrogen production, utilization and export.

As of November 2025, the mission has achieved the following milestones:

Green Hydrogen Production: 18 companies awarded a cumulative production capacity of 8.62 lakh tonnes per annum.

Electrolyser Manufacturing: 15 companies allotted a total manufacturing capacity of 3,000 MW per annum.

Procurement for Refineries: 2 companies awarded procurement capacity of 20,000 tonnes per annum.

Pilot initiatives: Projects sanctioned in steel, shipping and transport sectors.

In parallel, the government is bolstering renewable energy deployment through schemes such as PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG-MBY), PM-KUSUM, and new solar programmes for tribal areas under PM JANMAN and DAJGUA, which collectively support the expansion of rooftop and mini-grid solar installations nationwide.

To ensure timely execution of solar, wind and bioenergy projects and meet the 2030 renewable energy targets, the Centre has strengthened coordination between ministries and agencies by:

Conducting regular review meetings with central and state bodies

Launching the National Renewable Energy Portal (NREP) for tracking solar, wind and Green Energy Corridor project progress

Implementing real-time monitoring with data from states and renewable energy agencies

Setting timelines under competitive bidding guidelines

Holding monthly stakeholder consultations to resolve project bottlenecks

The details were shared by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
