Cabinet approves Continuation of Atal Pension Yojana and Extends Government Support Till FY2030–31

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) up to FY2030–31, along with the extension of government funding support for promotional, developmental, and gap-funding activities.

Under the approved framework, the government will continue to provide support for awareness generation, capacity building, and outreach initiatives aimed at expanding APY coverage among unorganised sector workers. In addition, gap funding will be extended to meet viability requirements and ensure the long-term sustainability of the scheme.

The move is expected to strengthen old-age income security for millions of low-income workers, deepen financial inclusion, and support India’s transition towards a pensioned society, in line with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.

Launched on May 9, 2015, APY offers a guaranteed minimum pension ranging from ?1,000 to ?5,000 per month from the age of 60, depending on the subscriber’s contribution. As of January 19, 2026, the scheme has enrolled over 8.66 crore subscribers, making it a key pillar of India’s inclusive social security framework.

The government said continued support is necessary to sustain momentum in enrolments, enhance awareness, and bridge viability gaps to ensure the scheme remains robust through FY2030–31.
